Enclosure Question

Enclosure Question
Hello,
I've recently purchased a Bassworx sealed enclosure, since the space in my trunk is very limited.
I was told that drilling two holes on each side about 2in in diameter would vent the box and improve the sound... can anyone here confirm that or will it sound the same or make it worse?

DON'T DO THAT! A ported box(the ones with the holes) is specifically designed for a "tuning frequency". Just drilling holes in an otherwise sealed speaker box just ruins it. In fact, if it's a sealed box, it's meant to be as sealed as possible. You should ensure there are no leaks when you install the subwoofers by using a gasket of some type to seal the speaker to the installation surface. Boxes with holes in them are designed to have a certain volume of air displaced in the port to create a specific tuning frequency for that box. The box is also a specific volume for the speaker being used, as the box volume can vary from model to model. Vented or ported boxes also tend to be larger than sealed ones for the same speaker. Whoever told you that does not know what they are talking about, and I would stop taking advice from them.

that awnser is 1/2 right, porting your box will sound better but theres more to it then just drilling a 2" hole, u need the proper port lenght to give it the best sound. there are calculators that can figure out the proper lenght to use.
you need box volume - what frequency u want ur subs ( see sub ratings general is around 40 Hz usually) - and diameter of port (can use ur 2", 3", any size of PCV piping
plunk all those into this calculator and u got urself a proper ported box

its the 4th box down
