What is the best type of box for a subwoofer? Since i want to have a good SQ and i listen to any kind of music. Going from rap, techno to metal and punk. I'm planning to purchase two Pioneer Premier TS-W1207D and i will put them in a Toyota Celica GTS 1994. Since i don't have alot of trunk space (i have a normal sized spare tire instead of a small one). I thought i could build a sealed enclosure and put some acoustic foam inside the box on all side. I don't like the noise some bad-designed ported box do. The kind of Vibration or Port noise they do i dont like. These subwoofer seems to have a pettry linear frequency curve so with sealed box so i think it could sound quite well. I don't want to hit 140 DB. I just want to feel the bass in my stomash.

What do you think of this idea? Deos a ported really pound harder than a sealed box or the difference is not much audible?

And i'de like to know wich website, freeware or any other software you use to design ported and sealed box? I need one that is not too hard to use but will give good result, not too priced too (if i need to buy it).

a sealed enclosure will pack a good punch which is what it sounds like you want. good clean power is another thing you wanna look at in a good SQ setup.

 

I don't want to do SQ competition, it's for a daily driver. I want a clean sound without distortion. Should i hook these subwoofer into 2 or 4 ohm. I know that lower ohm = more amp = more heat from the amp = loss of sound quality. But do you think 2 ohm is too much to get a decent sound? Since 400 watt rms into 2ohm is much more affordable then 4 ohm.

 

a well designed/built ported enclosure would not have any port noise at all
and would have excellent musical detail
in a small trunk like that I would go with a single 12" ported....it would be more
than enough for you to feel or even a pair of 10"

the two 12" sealed like you described would work but you would loose the spare tire

WIN ISD is a free on line enclosure design program...not a spectacular program but
it gets the job done

with the subs and amp you want to make the ohms match...if your amp puts out
rated power at 2ohm you want your subs to be configured to a 2ohm load

 

Buy a box off trevor(Thumpper) LOL...
A good ported box should NOT sound like , a bandpass box is a different story LOL

 

Since it is going in a smaller car you may want to do a single 12" sub in a ported box. If your wanting more of a punch rather than a pound go 12" sealed.
