Fiberglassing pods for tweets
I'm starting to build sound sys in the <new> ride an 2004 Ford Econoline E-350 Exdended PSD and I want to 'glass 2 pods for a pair of 4" Alpines . I would like to put them up on A pillars but there isn't a lot of meat to anchor them to . Any thoughts on best way to reinforce this area ? I was thinking some C channel Aluminiun <sp> behind plastic cover bolted though to pod and reistalling the plastic cover with those " Ford " metal clips . 2nd best location is on dash at windsheild , dash , A pillar connection . I want to lift stage up from middle of the door 6 1/2" to middle of windshield . The old ride <'88 E350> had a big a$$ eyebrow reinforcement I just bolted MDF pods to . No joy with this 1 !
P.S. Link to a good 'glassing site would really be helpful too .

Not sure how to get pics into text of body but here goes it .
The 1st is a pic out front windshield <duh>
2nd pic is the pods, A pillar plastic thingie, alum C channel and some alum angle for spacers, and the bolts , that were way to long but right diam.
3rd pic is the pod mounted from the back.
4th is the installed A pillars .
It sure brought the staging up out of the dash and put the music front and center ! Been driving for for awhile now and no sigh of falling off or bouncing to much. The pods are not touching the glass. See how long they hold out.

Interesting install.....when I started working on my E-150 the idea of mounting drivers that far up the pillars never even crossed my mind....
I mounted the tweeters from my JL XR 5.25 comps just above the top of the dash on the A pillars, the 5.25s in the factory locations and had 2 6" midbass drivers installed in a panel in the bottom of each door.
How do you find the front stage imaging? With those drivers that high up and in particular the one on the drivers side so close to your head, how was the setup and balancing process? I'm sure the 4"s take care of a lot of sound, what are you using for lower midrange and particularely mid-bass?
Any pics of the rest of your install? I thought I was the only guy who did up a full size work van.....good to know I'm not the only one who's into overkill on the road......

Right now the balance is set to 4 Right on a scale of 15. The 6 1/2 Clarions in stock door location are not doing to bad . I have a pair of Memphis 6x9's for rear fills and a Image Dynamics S.V.C. 12" in a ported box for bass. As the build progresses I will be putting two more captain's seats and a bench seat in. The mid bass will be 2 8" Kenwood's under the center row seats. The amp's are : Fusion Power Plant 101 2 channel bridged to the sub , a Clarion A.P.A. 4240 4 channel running the front Alpine 4"s and 6x9"s and a Jenson 4 channel running the mids and 6 1/2 . I will be expermenting with SQ to get the sound levels to where I want them. So, the amp plan for the uppers may change as to who runs what as the project goes. The floor has been shot with Hippo Liner bed protector and the walls and roof with Gravel Guard. Several layers of polystyene insulation, paneling, storage cabnets, bins ect to come.
This pic is pre shoot.
2nd pic is amp box . Round hole is a PC 12v cooling fan with blue LED illum.
