Okay so if you are looking in here you want to hear something great, but the truth is I only have a good idea.

So in the last few days I have been making more of an effort to come on here and share some knowledge that I have aquired over my few years in the SPL game. Every time I post it is really long and drawn out kind of like what I am doing right now. So what i was thinking was.... I know that myself and other "vets" in SPL from the forum would love to help new people to the game so that we can keep the sport that we all love to hate ( dont lie you know you hate the long hours of building and then you test and realize that the last 8 hours you have spent has now caused you to lose 1.5 DB. But when it works out you love it again!!! I know I have been there) alive and bringing in new people. So what I am offering is that if there are any questions about anything relating to SPL or just basic stuff no matter how big or how small, or how stupid you might think it is, should be asked here in this thread and I am speaking for me only and other people feel free to put in your $0.02 also. After looking through the Finnish SPL forums with my Dad ( because he is from Finland so he could translate alot of it) that is really what they do. They have no secret tricks or cheating the sensor, they just share the knowledge between competitors in different and even the same classes as themselves. So if we all just pool together our knowledge from the countless hours we have all spent working on our cars we to can be like the Fins are. They are a world power in SPL.

So I am calling out to all the vets that are on the board to follow suit like I am willing to do. Together we can bring new people into the dying sport that we love and hopefully one day lay the smack down on the Americans at world finals. *( sorry to all Americans but you guys have kicked our A$$E$ for so many years we need to give it a go.) If you really pay attention to who is who in the Canadian SPL game all of the guys that are in the top ten from Canada are pretty much on here. Here are a few for people that dont know:

Myself and Lauf- We had the world record in SS1-2 wall, and other Canadian records. We have also helped other people to have top 8 finishes at IASCA and DB Drag world finals.

Shocking Canada is Tom Adams. He has had the world record in SS1-2 No-wall and god knows how many Canadian records. And in my opinion would have cleaned house at DB Drag finals in 2002 but was unable to make it down due to a dental exam if I recall correct. (Damn career getting in the way of hobbies)

Moe Sab- Moe is the biggest IASCA freak in the world and has also had many world and Canadian records. He also is the director ( or something like that I am sorry Moe) for IASCA in Canada and is pretty much the nicest guy I have ever met.

Livin loud- AKA Crazy Curtis( ha ha Take that)
If I had to choose a rookie of the year last year I would choose him. His dedication to the sport is unreal. In his first year he must have spent a fortune in equipment that he has tested. I know because he has bought alot from me!!! He also drove like 36 hours with Rob VO to make it to finals and took I think 6th in street B which is a really competitive class.

also Peter and Kennie from MTA, Chris Cecco, Chris Barclay, Jordy O, Mike and Mark from Team Rip Rock and a whole bunch more people that I cant think of right now and I am sorry.

I could go on forever about the talent and knowledge that this board has at it's disposal. All we need to do is learn to share info and ideas and we to can really shake things up this year.

So I say Bring on the questions!!! And I promise I wont answer everyone with a reply as long as I have been.

yeah, good idea, i'm in.

one thing i really noticied is that we already do some of the stuff you mentioned above, we just don't do it enough. there is a lot to learn when you start out and by helping others, (vets or noobs) we don't really hurt ourselves but strenghten our ties and knowledge base. we have to work as a team and compete at the same time - sounds whack, but it's possible!

Right on Peter!! I dont know if he remembers me but I have been going to comps since I was like 16 so like 1996-1997 and I can still remember seeing Peter at all of the same shows I was at!! He has been doing for lots of years and has lots of records to show for it.

And the 5 DB loss was all done with the Isuzu we had for those of you who remember that thing. It was in 2002 in Charlotte at IASCA finals, remember that Pete? Me and Paul spent like 4 days before that working just on the car like 18 hours a day!! We changed port tuning and rounded all of the edges in the box. We also put hardwood flooring on the floor, doors, and roof of the car to take up more air space and make the surfaces more dense in hopes that it would reflect better. ( and because it was damn funny!! There are pics on the Iasca picture disc from 2002 under Paul Lemiski or Adv. 1-360 sq. inch) The real problem was we did not have a mic to test so we had no idea if it was helping or hurting!! We lost around 5 DB and found out during qualifying rounds. We ripped out as much as we could but we could not get it all out. If we could have gotten it back to the way it was we could have taken second instead of third. So I guess my first piece of advice is:
1: Dont do anything that you cant undo!!
Now with the multi we could really only play with port tuning and reducing air in the enclosure by a fraction at a time, and if we tried to take out to much at one time with say a peice of MDF spaced about 4 inches off the back wall we would lose a huge. We were sealing it up tight to the sides of the box so there was almost no air leaks getting past it and our peak note kept dropping with reducing air space?!?!?!!??!!? We could not figure it out until Paul and Tom Adams were talking and paul mentioned it to him and he gave us the answer. Because of the essentially hollowness behind that board was causing the note to drop from 58 hz to like 50 hz, and when you have like 20,000 watts per woofer playing that low is just unthinkable, there was our answer. So we knew why and could now figure out a solution. Now because Tom it also happen to him before and shared his findings with us we knew why it happened and could find a solution. The woofers wanted less and air and we knew that, now we needed to eliminate air but keep the back wall solid and keep the shape of the back wall the same also. Now this was no easy task. For the people that dont know the "Multi" the box in it was 40 cubic feet and the walls, floor, and roof of the box were like 6 inch thick solid concrete and it is damn hard to modify concrete and not make things permanent. We figured it out and because of the air removal we went from a 158.6 to a 159.7. But if Tom would not have said anything who knows if we would have tried doing anything close to what we ended up doing.

here's some good tips..

Your system is only as good as your weakest link!

Plan your system out before you start to build, might run into unexpected problems .

Hmmmm try to stay away from cement, it's hard to mod and it's harder to take out.. We have used over 40bags of cement 2 years ago. Really efficient. we could do a 163 and change with 2k of power! but when we added more power we didn't do to well. We knew what we had to do and it wasn't an easy task! Out came the sledge hammer !

I like the idea....After all even the seasoned vets don't know it all...

I think it would also be interesting to hear peoples results from testing with different cars, subs, enclosure designs...I know I have a lot of box design ideas always running in my head and I'm always wondering which would work in such and such a car...

I've been in this going on 3 yrs now and I find I'm learning something new on a daily basis even in the offseason....

Great idea,Man.....Let the sharing begin!!

well.. i really like this post!

and chris.. i am Honoured that you, and others would give me rookie of the year! it was a long, expensive, lots of travel, lots of testing, and building.. in the end.. worth every minute, and penny! would never trade it for anything!

as for helping others.. i will always do my best to share knowledge, and help others out! I agree that the ony way we can all learn is to help each other! the more idea's the better!

anyone neeed a crx in street B to do high 153's?? the box is here, and hopefully i can help anyone out!
