My first build, Couple of questions. Chevy Crew Cab and JL 13w5

Well I am about to start on my first sub enclosure build I have always had them custom made for me before but figured this should be a fun project. I have an 08 Silverado Crew Cab and am looking to build an enclosure for under the back seat for the JL 13w5 I just picked up.

I have been searching around a lot to try to find similar builds so I can get ideas and have found a lot of people using down firing boxes, which I guess makes sense as you don't have to worry about your sub impacting the bottom of your seat. But it makes me wonder if having the sub facing directly into the floor will have any adverse effects on sound quality? I am also wondering if I do build a down firing box how much of a gap should I leave between the box and the floor to allow for the subs travel? I have never really dealt with shallow woofers before so not sure what to expect. My only other question is I have been recommended .8 cft for the box and with it being under my back seats it pretty much has to be extremely shallow and very wide and I was just wondering what kind of effect that will have on sound if anything.

Thanks for any advice you guys can offer I will try to post pics as I go.
