you guys are all very wrong... for SPL you tune the box to the car not to the music.... every cars peak hz will be different.... like the last guy said you have to do a lot of testing SPL guys like me go thru many boxes every year trying to get that last 0.1 of SPL out of our cars. untill we get it perfect but then again there is always something that we can do to make are cars louder.

like yes when i am building boxes for people that are not gonna do SPL they just want bass in there car.. if they listen to hip hop and rap ect then i will tune for 32-45hz depending on sub and amp. and dont let any one tell you what to tune YOUR car to cus ONLY YOU know what sounds good and loud to YOUR ears..

i drive a pontiac sunfire 2 door. A buddy of mine was gonna do some calculations to find out what my resonant frequency for the car was but he never got around to it

a calculator cant tell you your resonant frequency the only way you can do that is put a box in your car and use a RTA that is the only way..you can get a large ballpark with a calculator and and plus the resonant frequency will change with different volumes and temp of the air. if it is cold out side and in side the car is sold like during winter time your bass will be louder cus the air is more dense... a few years back there was a guy in DB Drag that use to spray some spray in his van via remote control to bring the inside temp of his van down by 15c but it was outlawed by DB drag and iasca this is going back to the early 90's.. this was cus an SPL car/van must support human life.. and the spray that he used was harmful.....

you need to play round with a RTA and SPL does not come quick it takes time and efford and tons of $$$$$$$$... but if you stick with it it can be fun and enjoyible

the cheapest thing to do is make a box.. then make a nother and and another and a nother. and if you keep getting louder then you are on the right track if you dont get louder then you are not headed in the right direction.

having said this he doesn't just mean louder to your ears! he means on a mic, the new style mics!
