Post Recommended manufacturer box volume (ft^3)

I am getting an Alpine Type R (SWR-1041D) for my Alpine
MRP-M350 subwoofer, and the manufacturer's recommended
box volume is 0.5ft^3 to 0.8ft^3.

Is it best to stay within the boundaries of recommended volume
or sometimes is it good to go over?

Right now the sealed box I have planned is about 0.78ft^3

Always a good idea to stay within the manufactures recommendations, it's recommended for a reason.

It is espescially important if it is a sealed box. If it's vented I find you have a little more room to work with but many drivers are very picky as far as volume is concerned when they are sealed.

But.. don't you find Alpines specs a bit too small? I mean.. c'mon.. they recommend a max of 1.25 cubic for a vented box. Doesn't that seem a little unreasonable?

I'm still struggling with the decision for box size for my Type R

i rarely build boxes to manufacturers spec, but after you build your first couple hundred boxes, you kinda get a sense of what works, and what wont. Boxes arent as specific as alot of people think. Dont get me wrong, if you build the wrong box, the woofer will be HORRIBLE, but you can make alot of changes to a box, as long as you change everything to match...Ie. you can make a ported box twice the size as the factory recommends as long as the port area is increased correctly also.

I guess it depends on the company..

I've found what they recommend usually works well..

btw.. im not talking about taking exactly what the manual says.. I'm talking about getting in touch with an educated tech that works for the company and getting the information from them..
