Well, I keep getting ready to go out to get
MDF wood based on the diagrams and specs I've
calculated, but then I realize if I'm doing the
right design or whatnot.

The reason is, an MDF sheet is gonna cost me like
$29 (sheet of 49" x 97") + $8 (8 cuts). You get
5 free cuts but I need 13 cuts so I pay the extra
$1/cut. This is from Building Box (Home Depot
only gives you 3 free cuts).

Total, it will cost me $42.55CDN after tax. And
the liquid nail, screws and any other crap I need
is gonna set me back another $15-$20. All in all
I'm about to spend about $60. The result will be
enough pieces to build two identical boxes that
will house a single 10" each.

I'm only running a single Type R 10" right now
but have plans later to add another 10" if need be.

exactly! beat me to the punch line! </font>
I disagree. With the current mentality of MAKE THE BOX SMALL SMALL SMALL I find most manufacturers will recommend the SMALLEST box that you will tolerate rather than one that will work well.

I'll build a sealed box to the manufacturers' recommendations though cuz I figure, what the hell, it's sealed so all the performance is gone anyway
</font>
the exact reason i said what i did in my post...

Very true...Manufacturer reccommended sealed enclosures are usually designed with a higher Q value (usually around 0.8-0.9).

For example, with a Q value of 0.8 a JL10W3 will fit into a 0.8 cu.ft enclosure but with a Q value of 0.707, the enclosure grows to 1.8 cu.ft. Try marketing that...

I'm still struggling with the decision for box size for my Type R
I tried the recommended 1 ft^3 for my Type-Rs (SWR-1240Ds). Then decided I would build a bigger box because I didn't think it sounded all the great. World of difference. Went with a 1.5 ft^3/sub enclosure, and they still take well over 300 RMS in it all day ...

So for example, my Pioneer 305cs are recommended in a 1.5 cubic feet each enclosure, and ive got 2 12s

seeing as how this is my first car audio experience, should i stick with that suggestion ?

actually im not even gonna be building the box, but should i tell whoever is gonna be building the box about 1.5 cubic feet per ?

when i talked to chase audio he said 1.25 cubic feet per, but maybe he was mistaken ...

i beleive it works around what you think sounds good
a smaller box typically has a midbass boom or peak to which makes it louder
than a box to which is larger and allows it to have a deeper bass responce

I will just take a gamble with the box I have
designed and see how it goes. I am having the
wood cut so I can build another box of equivalent
dimensions.

Seeing I can't afford to keep building boxes, and
my trunk space is limited, I am really hoping
this design works

Hopefuly my amp/sub comes in sometimes next week

I had a Type R 10" DVC a few years ago, did a .75 cube sealed box, sounde very boomy, not too tight. That was my finding, hope it helps a bit.....

My box will be about 0.786ft^3.

BTW, What box dimensensions do you have? My
box will be (width x height x depth) 15" x 10" x 13".

The speaker will be put on the 15" x 13" side...
