tuning differences?

Still trying to locate a proper ported box that will work with my current subs 'RE SRX 12"

The RE site calls for 1.25-1.5 ft per chamber tuned to 35 hz ..

Haven't found one excatly but i found

2.8 cuft(1.4 each) tuned to 40 hz....

Another slightly larger(waiting on the cuft from the seller) and tuned to 38hz

Just how much sound difference would there be between these and what RE recommends?

Get a box designed to what you want. Not what was built for someone/something else.

Not really following you DS.
I should get what I prefer? I'd rather have 40hz tuning than 35hz. And probably a smaller box (1.25 cuft each sub instead of 1.5.)
So what RE recommends and what I wish for shouldn't make a difference to the sub performance, only to my ears?

If that's what you mean? Imma happy basshead.

If you like upper punchy bass than 40hz tuning is good. As for the 1.25 vs 1.5 You can use 1.25 no prob if your also raising the tuning to 40. 1.25 @ 40hz should sound good. Larger enclosures help with lower tuning and vise/versa.

The "2.8 cube box @ 40hz" is with nothing in it. As soon as you install subs, the internal volume shrinks and your tuning will go up slightly. When you have a box built to what you want the designer takes all that into account so you get the exact amount of internal volume you want.

Personally, it looks like the "2.8cu" box your looking for will work. You'll have just over 2.5cu after sub displacement and tuning would be about 42-43hz. It's a little high if you listen to rap/hip hop but its good for stuff thats not super low.

Just be sure to use a subsonic filter to protect the sub from unloading below the tuning frequency.

Right on bro, think it just clicked..

Sounds like I may miss a tad of the lower bass that I like using that box..
The same seller has a 1.5cuft per chamber tuned to 38hz...Its a bit pricier but it is built better(1 1/4 front panel) and high quality carpeting.

so its 1.5(chamber size) - 0.14cuft(sub displacment per chamber) gives me 1.36 cu ft at 38 hz. but it'll be more like 40hz after the displacment.
That should give me a little more low end if I understand right.. and yeah I'll be sure to use the flilter also
Cool, search may be over..
Owe you another bro

Just bought the box, I spent a few more hours searching, but still this one was the best for what I want, .. with some luck with the shipping time, I'll have it next week.

Here's the stats

* Dual Vented design
* Works with most woofers.
Rectangular Vented design for Powerful Bass with virtually no Port Noise
* Individual chambers
* Supplied Baffle Panel is finished in textured black and allows the woofer to be recessed for a true
custom look
* 1 1/2 inch MDF front panel
* 3/4 MDF sides and center
* Gold Banana Jacks
* 1.5 cu ft per chamber
* 38 hz tuned frequency
* 16in H x 18 1/4 in D x 34in W

Its a prefab, seems thick enough to handle the power I have and it does look a little better than your average one. I'll be sure to get a pic when I get it and make the amp rack.
Cheers
