Infinity kappa 6.5 vs kappa perfect? (differences?)

I was wondering what are the differences between the kappa and kappa perfect. Moving from the reference to the kappa, I noticed much better construction, smoother mid range (less honky, more body), and less bass (treble @ 0db). With treble at -6db, it sounds too muddy for me.

What are the differences between the kappa and kappa perfect? the kappa perfect cost around 300 bucks and I could already start looking at Focal at that price range. I've also tested a few Focal, and I find that they sound very smooth...but not particularly exciting or interesting. How'd they sound on highway with loud road noise? would they sound too dull? TIA

I have the kappa's and have heard the kappa perfects can't really tell the differance between the 2. I think the only real differance is the price and the crossovers for the perfects may be a little different. You could take a look at the Focal's or maybe Mb Quartz although it seems the Mb's are getting harder to find. I'm sure the rest of the guy's here will also have some great suggestions about other brands.

Ive tested 2 Focal, but it was just a brief test and I didn't test it with my songs. I tested the Focal K2 6.5", and polyglass 6.5". I wasn't particularly impressed with either of them. I prolly have to ask them to let me demo it for a few days if they allow me to do that. Then again, the kappas @ $200 is a huge bargain.

As for sub, I'm kinda set of the Focal Polyglass 33v2. Gosh the sub hits really deep, with no farting, even in a ported box. I'm considering putting them in a 50L sealed box (as per their spec), once I figured out what's the best place to get them. Any suggestion is welcome! thanks

I've always found the Infinity products to be lacking in quality. There are so many other brands out there to listen to. Take your time with your research.

Could I possibly get some suggestions? I don't know too many shops in the GTA, and most of them seem to be quite far away. As far as testing, I need it installed into the car to properly gauge the SQ, not sure there're many shops who'd let me do that. For subs though, I've found that most people have no problem letting me test it in the car.

I always like to hear other installers cars to see what can be done to different brands/products. I think that you'll find that most shops/installers have their preferences and that's why they have them in their own cars.

I'm presently with a pair of kappa perfect 6.1 and I have also a pair of 693.7i, I don`t know if the kappa component sound like the 693.7i and are build with the same quality and with the same technology. If they do... I can seriously say there`s a big difference between them. Perfect can play much louder than kappa and still sound richer more detailed. Kappa on need a lot of power to sound right otherwise they lack bass, detail, plus they can`t go very low. In summary I love my kappa perfect, they have some bright tweeter(this could be adjust with the crossover or with a head unit) but the woofer sound fast and really punchy. For me I will take perfect without hesitation it's not even a close comparison. If you to try something else, I would suggest you diamond Hex (I haven`t heard them but a lot of people giving some good review about them... for myself I would change my kappa perfect with some hex pro).

Alright, here's my impression about the 6.5 ref components, 6x9 reference, and 6.5 kappa components. I also have the 693.7i still in box which I was planning to install at the back of my car, but I may just go with another pair of 6.5s.

The 6.5 ref sounded very articulate, and incredible imaging. However, there's too much bottom end shrouding the mid range, making vocals a tad honky and muddy. The 6x9s are even more dynamic, but they have even stronger coloration in the mids than the 6.5s. I returned the 6x9s.

Moving from the ref to kappas, I noticed that the kappas are slightly brighter than the ref, and there are less coloration in the mids. All in all, I'm quite satisfied with it considering the price and sq. The treble could be tamed down with a tad of EQ.

I am feeding the 6.5s with 100w from my RF punch 450.4. I could bridging it and give it 225w but I don't really blast it, so I doubt it would ever need that much power.

infinities are ranked from top to bottom:
- kappa perfect
- kappa
- reference

I also did read reviews about people preferring the kappas to kappa perfect.

Yeah I went to number1sound and the owner definitely prefers focal. One thing i have to agree is that the focal 33v2 knocks everything out of the water. Given the same setup, same power, same volume, same everything (ceteris paribus), the 33v2 hits much deeper, and much tighter. I'm gonna call and see if I can get a better price than what he's asking for. I plan to pick it up this Sat.
