RE Enclosure Calculator
Doesent seem to take into account the displacement of the woofer, just be generous with volume and shoot for around 34 hz tuning( 34 will get you 36) from what ive heard about this calculator

ok, what about the last few questions in my last post, for a sealed box ( as im going to be doing both, and iv never used a sealed box before. im curious on how much different he sub response, and reliability is.
i dont want to blow this sub as its no longer on warrenty. (if i do, i wontbe getting a w3,ill be going a bit better.nocomplaints with thissub, i love its sound, but, i dont think its quite right for me if i blow it again, i would love to run two, that would probably be perfect, but, space is limited in a truck, and istill want one back seat.)

the problem is everywhere you look, gives you different answers that they all swear by. Plus i thought the point of a help forum, would be to help others with knowledge you have. Not to just say, i dunno. figure it out.
i kinda figured seems how the people who post here seem to have a fair bit of reasonable knowlegde, i was more likely to run into a more correct answer here, than searching google.
edit: for example the box tuned to 50hz.

ok, so another question would be. How much of a notice in volume will i notice? im pretty sure sound quality will go up?... but how much volume am i sacrificing.
also, im driving this sub with a 500watt rms amp, the jl500/1v2 at 4 ohms. how much easier/harder will it be to blow it in a sealed box? how can i tell if im pushing it too hard? will i still be able to smell if something is wrong?
sorry for all the questions, im just trying to learn :P

Since the driver cannot be "unloaded" at a specific frequency in the sealed box, it will be harder to kill than in a ported box. A subsonic filter is used to prevent that from happening, the trade-off is that the box will not go as low as the sealed one.
Amplifier distortion will kill a driver no matter what type of box it's in.....the amp you have will deliver a lot of clean power before it clips, you need to use your ears and not your nose to keep the driver safe......
If you build the sealed box first and decide you want to try ported, the port can face 90degrees off axis from the sub and should still work fine. On the same face as the sub is optimal, as long as the math for the box and port volumes work out OK it should be fine.
Keep asking the questions, just don't ask the same one 4 different ways.....I don't type all that fast and hate repeating myself.....

Well the w3 is in the sealed box. and well.
i havnt really turned it up yet. im afraid to :P
My gain is almost at zero for now, so i can break it in.
Before when i was playing my w3, i had all my mirrors shaking to where they were pointless. and i could feel my eye ***** shake :P
however, right now im not taking it past "light mirror vibrating" :P
Im afraid to take it too loud. as i dont know what will be overdriving it in a sealed box. Im thinking of taking it to an installer to get them to tune the amp, and show me my limitations after breaking it in.
lastly, i hear lots of different opinions on breaking them in. some say dont worry about it. some say its a must. some say free air at 35hz for 4 hours. some say turn the gain down for the first few weeks. some say burp them out of the box.
anyone know any true results of break in? or roughly the time it takes? as much input on that as possible would be great. As for now, ill just run it like i described, at 1/8 gain.
