Hey, I did an install today for a guy that had this amp (AX-6700) : Rated 150x2 continuous, 600 watts max or some rating like that. The guy only had a 10 AWG kit. The amp has two 25 amp fuses on it for protection. Any ideas if that wire is too small for the amp? I would have preferred 8 AWG instead, but it was all he had to work with..... I hooked it up for a 2 ohm stereo load, I figure it should do okay, hopefully.

The close window button doesn't work.

A 5 foot run of 10AWG, and no more.

In the world of AC and as per the Canadian electrical code, 10 gauge wire is good for 30 amps. If it's fused at 50...well...
Of course these rules probably don't apply to DC. Was the amp rated at 150 x2 @2ohms? If so wouldn't it be 300/14.4 = 21.4 amps.
At 600 watts you would have the potential of drawing around 43 amps. I would have gone with 8 gauge to be safe.

http://www.carsound.com/review_archi...ks-ax6700.html

In this test it produced 207x2, 2 ohms, 14 volts, resistive at 1% THD&N, 165x2 at 12.8 volts. The gains on the amp are at about 1/3. I told him that we should upgrade to 8awg down the road, I told him to check the amp after his daily commute, see how warm it is, and if the power wire is getting warm at all. If the wire was too small and choking the amp, would the wire warm up at all? Thanks for the help people.....

That's a 30 amp load right there. Yeah...when you start pushing the limits of the wire it'll warm up.

Thanks. It wasn't until he showed up and I looked at the wire kit that he bought that I realized he had 10awg wire. If I had known, I would have run 8 or maybe 4 awg for him.
