Why is that particular sub on a 3ohm setup anyways? I'm just curious, I'm not exactly sure what the benefit to that is ...

I know there's 2 ... and 4 ... but 3???

Has to do with inductance according to JL..it was a "No Comprimise" solution to make the ultimate subwoofer according their literature.

Could also be a great marketting tool to sell more JL Slash series amps..which comnveniently make FULL power from 1.5 (the W7's...hmm) to 4ohm mono.

Just go with the 500/1 and you will be happy

The 500/1 will give you almost 600 watts and that is at 10.5 volts only. Above 600 with higher voltage. This amp and a 10w7 H.O. hits easyly above 140 Db in my vehicule(Dodge Magnum)don`t know how much in a trunk. and tuned properly sounds verry musical, not a one tone bass box. JL is totaly overpriced in Canada, was not that bad when the dollar was on par but not anymore.
