Most mono amps are designed to drive 2 ohm loads and make more power at 2 than they do at 4 ohms. The distortion ratings are usually a bit higher at 2 ohms but with a sub you're not likely to notice. So if you're amp is rated for two ohms and you want to run one sub you want it to be 2 ohms, if you are going to run two then get 4 ohm subs and wire the two in parallel to get 2 ohms.
