does it actually make a difference in loudness? I would have 2 alpine type x 12" subs sitting in it. also wondering how much it would cost to have someone build it for me?

Having the right box is one the best things you can do for your subs. You also need to have it tuned to your subs as well. This will make a world of difference. To have it built you're probably looking at paying around 80 - 100 dollars for a dual 12".

You have to have it professionally done. It depends on the size, brand, power, and tone of the subs for the Hz it will need to be tuned to. The dimensions are also dependant on those variables. Your best bet is to take it to an audio place and let them do it for you, but a reputable shop, not a rinky dinky shop. I'm sure if you google the info for your particular subs you will find some info to start off with.
