How is a 2-way component better or worse than a 3-way component?

Same goes for a 6x9, 2-way vs 3-way?

I am running a Alpine IVA-D900 with no amp. What should I be getting?

 

The number of ways in a speaker does not make one either better or worse. A kwality speaker might be a 5 way and cost $40.00 yet the quality speaker may be a 2 way and cost $400.00. Sometimes your speaker choice is going to be determined by the speaker locations in the vehicle, your budget, the degree of installation you want, the results you seek.
