I've been recently looking at a lot of 4-channel amps and I want to run channel 3/4 bridged and show it 2 ohms. Many of the specs say something like 400 W x 2 @ 4 Ohms Bridged RMS, but it never says what will happen in bridged 2ohms. All the rest of the specs show 2 and 4 ohms but none of the bridged channels ever do? Will showing 2ohms on a bridged channel throw these amps into protection, or even damage them?

BTW I'm running an alpine type R sub that draws 300W RMS and Alpine type X components. I need a 4-channel amp that can run all of these things and can go safely into 2ohm bridged for the sub.

 

Overheating and/or premature wear would not be out of the question.
IMO look at different multi-channel amps or use two separate amps.

 

premature clippage can also occur...

 

The new punch series will run a 2 ohm bridged in the 3/4 channel as I did for over a year as long as you don't try and break any spl records. It is better to use an amplifier that is rated for it though as the power series stuff from Rockford is able to do this. Lots more dollars though.

 

Thx for the replies.. I've decided to go with the Pheonix Gold 200.4 Xenon series amp, pretty solid amp with 200w x 4 (4-1ohm stereo) and 400wx2 (8-2 ohm bridged) Should be more than enough amp for what I'm running.
