4ohm speakers off a 6ohm amp...
Hi Guys,
New to the forum and a little new to car audio as well...
I have a Grand Prix that I am switching out the factory stuff for aftermarket.
I've bought the deck and adapter kit, going with an Alpine IDA-X305 and I've replaced the front and rear speakers with 5 1/4" components from Energy and 6*9's also from Energy - I got a really good price
They are installed now and sounding good but they are running off a factory amp thats rated at 6ohms. Is this bad for the speakers? Am I reducing their lifespan/limiting their potential by doing this?
Cheers
Phil

Bad for the amp if anything as it's rated to deliver it's power into a higher resistance. with the lower impedance of the speakers, it can cause the amp to fail by allowing more current flow and ultimately more heat to be generated than it's designed to handle.
