6.5 alpine type s speakers
Hi there,
I have a pair of 6.5 alpine type s mounted in my doors. When I got them, they sounded awesome. Ive had them for 5 months, and lately everyonce in a while they sound muffled. I was thinking it may be the door pannels blocking it. I have a sunfire gt, and the speakers are behind the pannels. I also have an alpine deck cda 9827, the deck itself has 18w rms, and the type s are 40wrms. would this be affecting it, and if it is what may have changed since then. I also ha an alpine type r sub 1221d being powered by a pioneer amp gm5100. any advice on what may be wrong
thanks,
Alucard8008

you would do best to run those speaker off of a separate amp. I ran these in a probe for 2 years and I was very impressed by them. As for the baffling sound.....could be your turning them up too high, or like you stated, they might be too deep for your doors, which I can't really see because if I remeber correctly they don't have that great of a mounting depth?

remove them and inspect them for damage( water/moisture, corrosion on the speaker terminals etc...), also If I remember correctly, those tweeters are swivel adjustable...they may have deflected. They certainly will play louder with an amp, but sound very good with deck power. Good luck! let us know what you found.

thanks for the replys, I will doublecheck the speakers this weekend, I also was thinking of putting an amp to the speakers. a 4 channel infiniti. pumps out 111w contionuos, would that go ok wit the alpine type s since their max is 200 so its clear and loud. Also the 6.5s were mounted on mdf so that they could be put on the doors, as the standard is 4. I was thinking maybe the mdf was too think and putting it too close to the pannels. Like I said Ill doublechek what u guys have adviced, but just wanted to mention the mdf.
thanks again

111 watts rms is a little strong for those speaks, but you can just keep your gains low, and use the volume control carefully. I think they are rated for 40 watts rms, so keep that in mind when you're cranking.

which amp would you recomend, it doesnt even have to be a 4 channel, the rear 6x9 sound just perfect with the deck itself. I just need more sound in the front as most of the sound seems to be coming only from the rear. I have adjust the balance fwd but still the back sounds the most.

any brand name 50-60watts x 2 or 4 channels will do a nice job, and are pretty inexpensive. I like my Rockford a lot(50 x 4), it all depends on your budget, Kenwood, pioneer, Alpine, MTX, they're all good brands I've used a lot over the years. Just stay away from brands you know nothing about or are really cheap. Look for the cea 2006 stamp, at least you know it meets basic requirements on a standard test.
