hey all

I was going to put subs in my car this year but realized that having to pay for university is more important ... so i was wondering if just upgrading the 6x9's in the rear would help out at all??

i would be willing to buy and amp and already have an aftermarket cd deck (2 preout pairs - front and rear)

can i just upgrade the 6x9's or would i have to upragde the 5 1/4's in the front too??

which 6x9's would be good - want good quality with good bass and what type of amp (2/4 channel etc..)

Best bet is to put some really good speakers up front and some alright speakers in the rear. Do you need to amplify them, not necessarily. I would install the new speakers first and see how it sounds, if you like it, leave it alone. If you want it louder, then by all means throw an amp on the speakers, ideally the front ones and not the rear.

 

an amp and 2 decent 6x9s will up it nicely

300 to 400 is a very healthy budget, i wouldn't go that high in the rear fill myself.. maybe 200 - 250 tax in max..

for speakers i would go and do the (Try before you Buy) at a local shop.. most knowledged sales people can pair speakers up with an amp.. I prefer small shops and stay away from the box stores... my opinion.

you can avoid changing the factory front speakers for now, and just use the rear preout's for the amp, or have the shop hook them up for you..

 

I say with that kind of budget buy some front fill 5.25"s and a 12" sub. then build the box yourself.
My friend picked up a lightning audio sub and amp for 200$, I built him a box, and surprisingly it pounds pretty good.

 

check the for sale section, lots of good stuff there for cheap. My opinion; upgrade the fronts first, then add a single sub( choose something you can add to later) and a 2ch or 4ch amp(if it's in your budget), that way you can use it now to power you sub, and later on for the front speaks when you get a sub amp (and another sub??). Keep your factory 6x9's for now, and power the front and rear off the deck.

i appreciate all the excellent advice ... but i have decided to wait another year and set up a sweet system next year (i really want to put in top of the line, but dont have the money yet)

gonna get an xbox 360 instead....
