90+ LBS 10" subwoofer
Well, Steve believes he has the best product now, he wouldn't use the best sub a company has to offer, only to reject it and get another to build him one instead.
Then again, everything he does has a contract behind it, so he's kinda tooting his own horn now too.
He's gone through a lot of equipment, in the guy's defence though.

other than the fact that Meade happens to rock/rep them, is the SMD the "best"? why or why not?
I don't know, you guys talk about tuning a vehicle for the meter, a guy tunes differently to dip low on music. And therefore, his metered score will be effected. Therefore, I don't think its necessarily fair to compare apples to apples when it comes down to it, they're not. You can agree or disagree, its just a thought to consider.
if you tune low your meter score will suck, that's just physics. like, you do not get bonus db points for dipping low.
there is a video of DJ's golf doing 151+ on music with same gear and box that it does 155+ on a burp. Just stick in long ports and it blows any "but my set up can play music" comment out of the water.
like I said, a 155 db at 55hz burp car will still hammer out 145 db's at 30hz. and since the hz limit for db drag is 80hz, all these "i can do it at 35hz" comments are redundant. the spl meter doesnt take into account if you have back seats, 20 inch rims or 500 tweeters. When told that your number sucks on the meter, just admit it. Do not start comparing oranges to coal bags saying you did it at 35hz.
I love it when people see a doo doo number on the SPL meter and quickly try to turn into a SQ debate. "ohhhhhh but mine sounds better" HELLO if it sounds so good go enter in SQ, no one there will tell you your meter score sucked. Only maybe that your RTA score blows hahahahahaha
he's said the same thing time and again with different subs in the last 6+ years that I've known he existed. I've not yet seen him bash a sub that he currently has in his truck, they're always "the best" for him.

99% of the time the "but my set up can play music" comment just means that the person saying is a noob at SPL.

ofcourse it wouldnt meter as loud jigga man, notice the 10 db drop in my post. 155 to ------------------------------- 145.
I thought that was just a random guess my friend, my mistake. But isn't Mat tuned low and doesn't he meter well? For the power he had at least. Granted it was in a wall, but still, you see where I'm going with this...SMD FTW
also note my remark about noobs who say "but I can play music"
you never hear Mat say that since he's not a SPL noob.
Very true. You know, I've never really paid attention to the excuses people have when they meter poorly. I really always though being a "musical setup" was a valid excuse for not doing a 55, but not when you're boasting that it is capable of doing so before getting on a meter. Plus I've never really heard an spl setup attempt to play music, except Joell's old box. It was definitely loud on music, just louder with a burp.
Maybe for the next SPL Chronicles you can do a bunch of post run interviews and compile all the excuses people have for poor showing lol

i SERIOUSLY beg to differ... and i would love anybody to prove me wrong. i have been to SBN and heard trucks like bob pirellos who was doing bloody 60's on music, and it sound like *** at anything under 45hz
