Thanks for the reply Bud, there is another downer for me, it does not have the choice of having red illumination like the previous and newer models argggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

Me and my luck, went to purchase the damn thing, playing with the controls on the demo unit while the guy went to get me one and discovered that. My BMW cluster and control lights are red/amber this HU has only blue, I was shocked.

The CDA-9886 R which is only sold in Europe has the blue or red switchable option, I am very disappointed, why would they do this?

The CD3200 is a damn fine choice and in my opinion a far superior cd player. It will do red illumination as well. Buy a cd player for what it will do for your system, not what it may look like. Your eyes should be on the road and not on the cd player.

Except if your car is a show car, having a red illumination and a blue HU display does not go too well

Apparently you don't have sex in the back seat Joking!

The BMW I have is a rare Euro Spec M-Tech II and will be exposed quite a bit, so it has to be as original looking as possible. If I have to get the 9886r from Europe I will. I am very when it comes to both sound and looks, I do not compromise when it comes to certain things.

Thanks for the reply.

If i could go back and decide on decks, i would have taken the 9887 over the 9886. USB function is usless imo. i never use it, i only use the CD and iPod connections, and i REALLY would have liked to have the imprint options already on my dewck like the 9887 has.

MR2..... what backseat....I had to stick her head out the T-roof. Car is long gone now, lots of room in a F350 and a way hotter girl to enjoy it with.

Unless you are in a major hurry to purchase, why not wait a month and a half and see what the new models are going to look like?

Jalat, I think the USB feature is great, that's if you are a huge music fan. It avoids having tons of CD's in the car. USB connectivity give you the ability to USE a USB memory stick with as many mp3s as you like. You can even use a USB HDD but I heard it's slow scrolling through this. Having USB and a memory stick is like having a huge 1000 CD changer.esay to rip your CD's and choose songs you like, making separate folders on the memory stick.

Thanks.

I thought about that and I asked the dealers what Alpine will be bring out next and they said that they do not see anything new coming out until next June. I find that hard to believe since Alpine would want to keep up with competitors.

I am in somewhat in a hurry, I have a gazillion wires under the driver side dash from the installation of my Viper 5701 and wanted to install the HU so I can neatly tuck all the wiring away. It's next inline to come into my shop to be turbocharged and getting this out of the way will save me some headaches.

I can temporary tuck the wires until later but will miss nice sounding music as I work on the car

This is my Euro 325i i would like the sound system for. Eventually I would want to replace the sound system in my new BMW as well.
