No problem Mate. I have read somewhere that it's possible to get the red option to work if you used the 9886R face plate on the 9886. I AM NOT SURE IF IT WILL.

I would have thought that the feature would have to be stored on the HU comos memory.

The best thing to do which is easy and costs you nothing, is to call Alpine directly and ask them.

I think that you will get the 9886R in Australia easily, since the regular 9886 is only available in North America.

The Audi and BMW have the same color instrument/cluster lights and I would want to maintain the same too.

Cheers.

Not a stupid idea, I am an electronic technician and have thought about doing that too but by not having a unit with me I can't tell how possible it is.

I have repaired decks in the past and some LED's could have been changed, but these days with them being so much more compact and have more smaller surface mounted components, it might be difficult to do.

The best option is to get the 9886R.

Just sharing my luck finding a 9887 LOL

After two dealers told me they were not restocking the 9887 for now, I found two ads online searching for one.

The latest one:
Date: 2008-10-30, 4:46PM MDT
Top of the line Alpine CDA-9887 for sale. Less than 3 months old in perfect working and cosmetic condition. Comes with full speed i-pod cable, manual, box and remote control. $300.00 OBO.

My first email to the seller:

Hi There,
Saw your ad on craiglist, do you have this HU still and do you have pics of it?
Thanks.

Seller's first reply:
Hi..........Yes I do still have the unit. I don't have any pics, but it is in brand new condition. No marks, scuffs or scratches on it at all. The harness has been cut but it's clean. You can reach me at ***** to have a look. Cheers!

I then called twice, left left a message telling him I am in Ottawa and would send him the funds after which he can mail me the HU and then I sent an email:

Hi, I left you a message on your voice mail.
Thanks.
Sent from my BlackBerry device on the Rogers Wireless Network

Seller's reply a few hrs after:
Hey................Sorry about last night. Unfortunately the deck is now sold. Good luck. Cheers!

Either my Caribbean accent made me sound like a Nigerian Scammer, having a 10000000000 surplus diamonds and need $ 200 to clear customs to send it to you or the HU is sold Ha ha ha. I don't want to accuse him wrongfully, but I doubt it's sold in which case he either does not want to ship or my Caribbean accent scared him LOL

It sound like a good deal, you guys can try your luck if interested

Click here for linky. Alpine CDA-9887

Forget this guy in the ad below, I called him 4 times no answer and no return calls, must be the accent thing these Calgary guys are scared of LOL

Happy New Year Guys.

Well after i had no luck getting the Alpine CDA9887 new I bought a "barley used" one from a guy in Alberta. CDA 9887, said its a few months old, Ipod cable and Imprint for $ 420 shipped.

Sent funds, everything came like in new condition except Ipod cable. Did a test on the HU, my heart sank, the transport had an issue, cd was rubbing on one spot. Spoke to the seller , he said it was fine when he took it out but said he would fot the repair bill. I sent it off to Toronto to the Alpine delaer/repair company after $ 100 later it worked fine on the test bench. they said they replaced the transport carriage.

Left two messages for the seller awaiting a reply, hopefully busy wit the holidays, seems like an OK guy.

So after a three day installing of subs, power amp, making power amp bracket (don't really like mounting it on the sub box and prefer to have access for tuning, capacitor, soldering every wire and every connector, heat shrinking, running bigger wires to all four corners of the car, new speakers it works. Still lots of tidying up to do, deck is just sitting in the slot for a dry run, have to install it properly.
I can finally mount my new Viper alarm too, was awaiting the HU to get all the wires hidden and well insulated.

I am in love with the HU so much to learn and tweak. I was doing some research about imprint manager and learn t that there is an updated version 2,1 as opposed to the 1.1 which came with the unit.

Have any of you guys used 2.1 and if so where did you get it? I registered on Alpines site and still could not find it.

Thanks guys.
