Are all interconnects created equal?

It wont take me long to make something out of coathangers we can test agains whatever you got on whatever system you can come up with...
I want the bet to be good though....

Hey if you think you can hear a difference, then by all means blow a few hundred bucks, personally, I think $20.00 cables from any reputable manufacturer more than do the job. I have tsunami myself, and I can't complain. They cost 16.00 each for 15 footers and have gold plated ends that are pretty tight and have never fallen off the rca connectors. That seems to be the biggest problem with cheap cables in my experience. If my system isn't high end enough to hear the difference, then i'm sure the rattles in your car and the wind noise and the noise floor are more than enough to cancel any benefits no matter how high end.
Buying high end cables isn't a farce....there not quite worth what most companies sell them for but guess what, there is a difference in sound.
Now, buying ceramic pods to raise your cables off the floor of your listening room, that IS a farce.

Around 1979 I used to modify the famous Rogers LS35a speakers using (Vampire)14guage silver tinned wire at $7.00/lineal Ft., although not much wire was used considering the size of the diminutive cabinet, the difference was substantial. so much so that the CBC brought in their monitors.
BTW One of Canada's foremost audio engineers http://www.inouye.bc.ca/default.htm has done a lot of research on cables and noted that they do make a difference(substantial) enough to see on test equipment.

Blow a couple hundred bucks on cable...
HA!!
Who does that?
I know of one US based car that had 3 sets of MIT Shotgun S2 interconnects, and 3 sets of the Pro Terminator networks for the speaker cables.
People do more than a couple hundred...

Haunz, is that bet for me or someone else?
(I'm about 15,000kms away from Sarnia right now.)
I think it would be pretty unfair to make a bet with someone with the gear I've got at my finger tips.
I've had a couple SPL guys do blind listening tests in my car, and even they could tell the difference. I didn't tell them when I was switching...or even what I was switching. All I asked was for them to tell me if they noticed anything. Guess what? They noticed.
First question: Are you adjusting an EQ?
Second question: Was that an amp swap?
Third question: What the hell DID you do?
NOT ONE OF THEM BELIEVED ME WHEN I TOLD THEM WHAT I DID.
You can lead a horse to water...

^ Yet in the blind testing I did nobody could hear it.
This was on a set of Martin Logan Sequel IIs on a Sumo 'Five' Class A amp, Sumo PreAmp and a Nak CD player. So the differences should have been apparant.
I see value in build quality but little else.

I would make a bet with you ANYTIME... Seems you and eli are on opposite ends of the country and Iam kind of inbetween... unforunatly, Iam not planning on traviling to either AB or NB anytime soon... but if you guys are ever in Ontario feel free to contact me....
I wouldnt hesitate to put up some equipment or even cash if the test is set up scientifically...
(plus I can probably find backers if you want to make the wager really interesting)
I would not take a bet if the cables used passive filters unless the same filter was used on BOTH cables being tested.... (probably the reason you and your SPL buddies can hear a diff between one of your cables PEI- am I right?)...
Also it would have to be a typical environment. If noise was going to be introduced Id want to know from what ahead of time as well as how the other cable is designed...
Id leave my budget under $50 if we are introducing noise, but I have to be allowed to modify my cable or be able to make my own...
If there is no noise issues before we start the test I will honestly make a pair using coathangers/tape we can try if you guys want
Maybe if I call 'myth busters' and pitch them a show they will fly a few of us to where ever they film it to be on the show...
