Alpine 550RMS amp powering 4X500RMS subs?
Too keep the story short, my buddy bought a durango off a somewhat rich guy he knows. It came with a $8000 (bills to prove it) professional installed sounds system. He got the suv for dirt cheap, so he just plans to sell it off, but wants to put the subs and amp in his project car.
The problem, is the number don't seem to add up to me.
The box has 4X SWR-1242D (type R) (500 RMS each) Two pointed out of the box, two pointed in.
The Amp that was hooked to the subs is one Alpine MRD-M501 (550RMS @ 2 ohm)
So wiring them, you could get them to be seen as a 2 ohm load at the amp, so you are getting the best output, but that still leaves the subs asking for around 1500 more?
To me these power rating don't seem to add up, your thoughts?

Or the guy blew up or sold the big amp, then put in a cheap crappy replacement in for the sale
