still an mp3! the very nature of the process is not for an audio file.

apple does also offer a lossless format to combat this...dont know if its truly lossless or even if its entirely possible to have such a thing as lossless compression...but they offer it

you can use your IPOD as a hard drive and burn your cd's with aiff, wav etc... which will give you the same quality as a cd. I have my 60 gig video ipod doing exactly what I mentioned, and it's good for 80-100 cd's using wav or aiff, or about 175-200 cd's with apple lossless which is what I'm using. Advantages are many, no skipping( was not a problem for me anyway), most of my music with me at all times, no damage to my cd's, less distracting on the road ( no changing, searching, or flying cd's in the car).

As for integration, depends on the model Alpine you have, as the new ones are direct connect. I believe 04/05 uses the kca-420i adaptor which is reasonably priced at some shops now (PM me if you want to know who has it the cheaest in T.O.). The only drawbacks are; you can't leave the Ipod in the car on really hot or cold days, the search function on the decks are limited, but if you set up your playlists properly it's not a problem. Otherwise it's great!
