They both have built in amps, the 9835 is not a dead-head.

The Hard Disc Drive is this device: http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/...y=45&p_main=10

"If you want even bigger musical selection than you can get from a CD changer, here's the unit for you. A hard disc drive player that can store approximately 3,000 songs in MP3 or WMA formats and also plays back WAV files. The HDA-5460 comes with its own software for easy downloading, creating and editing playlists."

As far as Mobile-Hub, I believe that allows you to interrupt your music when your cell phone rings. Versatile-Link allows you to connect another adaptor to use as an Auxiliary input, I think.

Lethal.....if you flip a switch on the bottom of the 9833 it changes it's X-overs into three way mode as well. From Front/Rear/Sub to High/Mid/Low. You should know that silly.

But, yes the 9835 is much easier to adjust with its display.

WOW goody I am not the only person that has found a very significant sound quality difference between two Alpine radios that are in the same class. I had a 7997 phantom face but with the normal display and swapped it out for a 7998 and the difference was absolutley unreal. The puzzeling part about it is that the only difference between the two is the display and the 7998 has no internal amp. Coll I am not losing my mind!!!

yeah i had the 7998 for a while it was a stellar deck. but i switched to the 9835 so i could use the ipod interface and that deck is killer i love it so much. the deck power on it is decent. the xovers kick *** and the time correction is amazing. the 9835 is really to me the only alpine deck i could ever use. the 9833 would be a close second if i had to give up biolite.
