hi
i was wondering if a kewood 1800 watt mono amp (900 rms) would run a 12" alpine type x sub?

If its a true 900 rms, I don't see a problem pushing it just fine. Box design will also greatly affect power handling, so that can help if you know what you are doing.

Just depends on the sub. The higher the rms, usually the more power a sub needs to get moving nicely, but some subs are definetely more power efficient than others.

what are dd subs like, would it be better then the alpine x? say a dd 2512?

Please define "better", you're too general.

With a 2512, you'll have more SPL with the power you have (or plan on getting), but probably less SQ, unless you prefer ported boxes over sealed ones, and that the one you'd buy/build for the 2512 would be built to specs.
