Am i getting ripped off?
-Jbl p1224 12 inch sub
-gto7001 700 watt mono amp
-4 gauge wiring
-capacitor
-ported box
- and install
= $1035.00 + tax
i feel like im getting ripped off and me being only 19 thats a lot of money to lose when i could get much more.
my goal is to be pushing 1000 watts but if this is a good deal then im not going to be able to.
Can anyone point me in the right direction. where to go/what to get/who to install if this set up is way over priced.
Thanks,
Alex.

1000 watts rms? The sound will probably depend mostly on the box the sub is in, and it sounds like the box you were going to get from that shop would have been pre-made, which isn't always bad, but isn't always the best either.
I'll take a few guesses and say for starters you want either a 10'' or 12''. If its 1000 rms then there are a few good subs out there, but you might be better off looking to the brands you don't see in many shops if the single sub setup is what you're after. The amp will probably eat the most out of your budget because of the power you're looking for. If its 1000 watts max though, you'll get decent ones, but rms will cost a fair amount (usually).

with install that sounds correct to me from a retail store.. u can ditch the cap a save urself a couple bux tho..
u can ask someone here to design u a better ported box and make it urself for less than 50$. saves again. anf home depot can cut the pieces for u so all u have to do is screw and glue and add a bit of carpet
for wire kit u can look around for cheaper too.. or go to princess auto if u have one around and get some 4gauge or bigger welding wire and the rest of ur connections. cheaper again
install shouldnt be more than 80$ for just a sub and amp.
how much is the sub and the amp.. sometimes u can get better stuff for less money.

I wouldn't say you're getting "ripped off", because this is the price that any shop will charge you. You're paying full retail for a sub, amp and a pre-made box. My best suggestion would be to research the gear yourself and buy it, bring it to this guy to install and that will bring your cost down, at least a few hundred dollars.
It's your choice. Maybe they'll offer you a warranty on the sub, which you won't get with buying on your own, but if your about saving money on your first system, get the stuff yourself, boxing day sale, online, used whatever you want and then bring it to someone to install (a shop). You're still supporting the industry IMO.

the quote was given to me from canadian auto sound over at eglington in scarborough.
there would be a warranty on the amp and the sub.
i was looking into a fi q 12 and ordering it from vegas tommorow and running 1000watts to it butttt if anything lets go that turns into a big hassle i figure to ship it back or get parts etc.
so really what im asking is if someone can point me in the right direction.
the fi q is what i had my heart set on. but if anyone knows a sub that will perform just as well and handle the same power at around the same price that i can get here in canada. im all ears.
so what should i be looking to spend on a 1000watt amp and what model/brand should i go with
and as for the sub what sub should i go with and be looking to spend.
is a capacitor really needed.(will be running on stock battery and alternator)
you guys have been a big help so far
thanks,
Alex.
