Amp and Box for Alpine Type X's
Well I went nad listned to some more speakers today.
I found a place in Richmond (Big Boyz Audio) that has the w7 on demo it was the 10" but thats ok becasue most of the subs I have been listening too have been 10's so its a good point of reference. When I got there I noticed they also had the xtant X2 so I was able to give that a listen.
The 10w7 was in a JL prefab proted box and powered by a 500/1. It sounded great it was by far the best sounding setup I have heard it hit really low and quite hard. I was very impressed.
The X2 was also a 10 and it was powered by the xtant 500rms amp dont remember the model. It was in a prefab ported box but not onedesigned spefically for the sub like the JL. It also sounded really good it didnt go as low as the w7 but hit considerably harder.
The Type X I listened to was at AVU and it didnt impress me very much but it wasnt setup very well. It was powered by a 500wrms amp instead of 1kw it was in a 1.2cube sealed box. It didnt really sound very impressive certainly not what I would expect form such an expensive sub but given what I have hear from good S and R setups I tihnk it is a safe to assume it would sound much better with a bigger amp. That being said I really dont feel like spending the cash it would take to get 4kwrms in my car so I think for now two better 12"+'s will work better.
I also listned to a bunch of components today. The JL XR's I tihnk were way too expensive for the quaility of sound compared to others. The ones I liked the best were the Focal CV1 line.
Soooo if I were to do a pair of 13w7's in a custom ported box is a pair of 1000/1
's a good choice for power or are there cheaper amps out there that will do a good job?
For frontstage should I be looking at 3-Way or 2-Ways up front? I will likely have enough room in my doors for 6.5" and 3" deep so that shouldnt be a problem.
What about rears? 2-Ways or jsut 6.5 coaxial speakers?
Also when looking at alternators how many amps will I need?
I think those are all the n00b question I have for know but I am sure there will be more, thanks for reading.

I would scrap the 1000/1's. There are many amps out there that will get the job done well for less $. As far as how big your alt will need to be, I imagine between 200-300 probably if you are gonna run between 2000-2500 rms total. As far as the components go, decide what you like between the 2 and 3 way setups and go accordingly. All depends how much work/money you want to spend on installation.
