amp gone crazy..... need help!!!

to give everyone a good idea. heres what i currently have. my front speakers are still stock(tweeter and mid bass), my rears are the pioneer TS 2 way 4" 120w speakers, my sub is the pioneer TS 10" 800w shallow mount, my headunit is a pioneer avic f900bt and its all powered by a earthquake extreme 900.5w amp. so i just put in the sub in the stock location on my car(its running free air for now). while i was driving home i decided to crank up the volume about 3/4's way to see how better the new sub is compared to the stock one. so it plays fine for a while then suddenly all my speakers go completely NUTS. i smell a small short coming from somewhere. i go check the amp and its volt meter is showing 14v instead of the regular 12v. so what im trying to find out is, did the new sub kill the amp and also are all my equipment a fit for each other? im trying to see weather to get my amp fixed or look for another one. also before any tells me to get 2 amps(a 4 channel and a mono amp). its not possible for what i plan on the car as space is very very limited.

If the car is running, 14.4 volts (or about) would be normal. If you smell something burning though, that is most definitely not normal. Smell the amp, if it smells like the magic smoke has been released, it is toast. I have some 5 channel amps in stock, drop me a pm for more info if you like or if you want some help to diagnose the system.

its the volt meter on the amp. its normally around 12v. what happens is whenever i start up the car the speakers starting going nuts. like its being overloaded with power. all you hear is really loud noises.

im pretty sure its not free air. but the way they designed the stock sub location its like a sealed enclosure. im almost 99.99% sure my amp is toast. 3 years for a refurb amp aint too bad.
