amp not powering up

the amp is only getting 7v instead of 12v so its not turning on

it has a dedicated power wire from the battery terminal

the guage in the car reads 12.3ish volts

the ground wire from the amp is attached to sheet metal in the trunk, that might be the problem so its going to attached to a better place

any other thoughts?

SO with a multimeter you measured 7volts at the +ve terminal of your amp while you measured 12v or more at your battery?

You need to use a multimeter and measure at the battery, input of the underhood fuse, output of the underhood fuse (and that is where the problem will show IMO) and then at the amp.

i agree, i can almost guarantee the voltage drop is at the underhood fuse holder.

Are you measuring at the amp witth the negative probe right at the amp terminals? If so Meaasure to the battery as well. I get quite a few DIY'ers whose amps won't turn on and their amps measure less than 10 volts referenced to ground at the amp terminals and over 12 volts referenced to ground at the battery terminals, which means it's the ground thats faulty.
