Typical old school stuff would give the wattage into an 8 ohm load @ 12v, and at the lowest level of THD. Then they would take that number and round it DOWN.
A lot of the new stuff gives wattage at the lowest impedance level that the amp could handle, with the highest voltage the amp can take, at level where the signal is clipping . . . then they round the number up.
And then there are the real low end companies that splash the max power consumption across the heatsink claiming that is the output.
So in answer to your question Specialized, a 200W Nak will still put out 200W, but more into a 4 ohm load, but you should question the ratings on a lot of newer amps.

^^^^^^ Well put
For example, Cutra and I both have a fair amount of Zed stuff. An amp we both have is the Crunch SHC50. This amp is rated @ 400x1 watts bridged into 1ohm (Cutra's are modded as 4 ohm models whereas mine are not this makes no difference for output, only the minimum load). The test sheet on this amp is 815 watts RMS!!! (+ or minus a watt). The part I like is that the amp is rated as 25x2 at 4 ohms. I describe this amp to many as an HCCA 225 rated amp with the output of a 250. LOL
This is what you might call "old school under rated".
I've got one (3 total) of my SHC 50's running bridged into a 2 ohm load. The rated power is SUPPOSED to only be 200 watts at this load. It SHREDS the "more modern" amp that it replaced (A decently respected Soundstream Rubi 502) which is rated for 500 watts RMS at the same load. The control of the subs is far superior and the bass is far sharper. Total bass or SPL levels are much higher (or at least they feel that way as I have never metered my car).
To beat the rest, the amp drawing even less current.
You can get 2 old school amps in the price range you quoted for one mediocre new amp for more money.

So i browsed around the Zed site, seems like it would be pretty decent. Was lookin at the Minilith, and its right in my price range. only problem is its only rated at 400watts. If i got this you guys think it would actually push closer to 600? I don't want to be underpowering my subs at all...
Otherwise i also got informed about an old rockford bd1000a1.. seems like it would be too powerful if anything tho.
I'm more of a SQ guy than SPL. Thoughts?

Were you not looking for an amp that does 800 at 2ohms? the zeds are awsome amps but put out full power at 1 ohm. Something like a Clarion DPX1800 does 800 at 2-1ohms. These new DPX amps work very well and sound great.
