the alpine f#1 staus is very exclusive only 12 dealer in canada i believe, and the prices anrent insane, they are worth every penny for the best 12 volt products perhaps ever built, and the amp retail for only 4500.00, not 10,000

Dukk, I learned a bunch from your original post. I wasn't really surprised about the money it takes to start a business up, but the break-down was interesting.
Rob, you are to be commended for taking the plung into such an exciting industry.

Adam - I took a 2year Business Admin course after highschool and had a project just like this My numbers were WAY less though as I had no clue back then.
Since then I managed one Independent and helped open and ran the install portion of another so the numbers are more realistic. I agree with Rob that your major lines will want to see more like $10k as an opening order but if you look at minor lines from the same distributor then you can probably cheat down to the $5k range for those
Where people get burnt is:
1) Not keeping money to live off of for 6-12months. You will not be profitable the first year.
2) Not advertising enough. It is a deadly cycle that people do not lay out money for advertising and since there is no advertising there is no business. Remember this: Even the makers of asswipe advertise and that is as generic a product as it gets...
3) Spend too much on fixtures/leasehold improvements. Yeah it is nice to have a cool store and yeah big computerized boards are cool but how about some clean simple stuff at first and upgrade later. And do whatever work you and your buddies/family can do on your own. Keeps regular customers coming in to see what's new too
4) Too much credit. Well more so - too much stuff ON credit.

I know that Audiowaves can get the F#1 equipment, but yea, I know it's exclusive.
I would not go and say it's the best equipment out there....however I would say that if I had to build an entire system with 1 company it would be with the Alpine F#1 Status equipment....especially with those Scan Speak comp sets they use and that new Type X sub looks beefy.

Brandon,I think you'd be surprised just how many people on this forum could afford the Alpine MRV-F900.
There are people with systems over $10K, and a couple over $20K that I know of.
On another thread, you mentioned that you knew what Audison has been working on. Well it has just been somewhat unvieled, although all Audison has done on their european website is acknowledge that it exists...no pictures. The price of that unit should put you in a coma!
I've been fortunate enough to have a great amount of information shared with me by some enthusiasts in the industry. I don't preclude to break that trust, but I must say that there are some startlingly expensive projects under developement on the amplifier and processing front.
For a shop to start up carrying the upper end lines, I think the market needs to be well developed in that area. In other words, car audio is thriving on both the retail, and competition front. From the responses I've seen on this board, I believe there to be 3 of these markets in Canada. Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto.
If you live in one of these centers, starting a business in the car audio field gives you the opportunity to prosper from a developed market. But the competition will be much more developed too.

Have they released the name of it yet?
I won't say anything if they haven't....I know the price of it though...it's built to replace the HR100 so it's gonna be expensive.....and I still wouldn't buy one, because I can get more than more than wicked sound out of a VRx for a whole lot less.
10K is way too much for an amp...the VRx likely doesn't sound as good as the HR100 but they only differences will be the small details.
