Anyone with CDT components, or thoughts?

Reason for going higher is because my front components showed me what a half decent set of speakers really sound like. I want more.

First, I have DLS UP6's in the front. I guess they would be considered "low medium" quality? Anyway, I like them a great deal which is why I would consider a higher end set, but I've not heard CDT components at all and was wondering if anyone has a 3 way set installed? They sure have a huge product lineup to choose from.

I've made the decision to hack up the doors a bit, so 7" or 8" mid bass is ok.

Since I am now playing around with active, would I be better off buying individual components like this:

rather than a packaged "set" which includes a crossover that I wouldn't be using? I guess it would be nice to buy a package and stick the crossover in the closet for "maybe later" use, but on the other hand it looks like I could get even higher quality for the same money by purchasing separates. Using a supplied crossover would be a LOT simpler though wouldn't it? One amp, bridged, poof, done.

This is what I was looking at for around $1200.00

Mid-woofer: Cast Alloy 6.5" Fiber Fabric Kevlar cone
Midrange: Cast Alloy 4" Fiber Fabric Kevlar cone
Crossover: ES-300CC “Transient Optimized”Elliptic 4th order 2-way
E.Q. 3-way xover. Read/download sep spec abt this xover
Tweeter: DRT-26 deluxe extended range modular 1” silk tweeter.
Power handling: 250 watt RMS @ 100Hz High Pass
Frequency response: 60-20kHz
Sensitivity: 92.6 dB.
Impedance: 4 Ohm
Tweeter surface mount both flat and angled &
flush mount both flat and angled.

DLS would be in the same price range.

Right now, even crossed at 100 (at the amp) the UP6's have a surprising amount of bass to them. Possibly because of all the work I've done on the doors.

Component amps (Two 4 channels) are taken care of (say about 85 to 100 wrms per channel) but I'm wondering...can I use different brand amps, especially if I buy one of those sound processors, like a 360.2? More or less just use the amps to feed the speakers, thats it.

Come to think of it, a processor would be a must right? The deck cant do 6 fronts and 2 rears. Before anyone goes nuts, I like rear sound, not for passengers (dont care) but because I think it adds something. Just my preference, besides, I have the channels, why not use them.

Subs, and sub amp is taken care of.

I'm looking for your opinions or experience on both CDT and DLS mainly, but I'm not completely stubborn about going with another brand.

Anyone have that level of components installed I could listen to for example?

Long post, but thanks for any input. That kind of money is not huge, but its significant to me, hence the request for opinions.

A nice little factoid. this decade's top 3 most winningest speakers in IASCA overall are

#1 Focal.
#2 JL Audio
#3 CD

if your dumping $1200 go with the Focals

I have had the opportunity to listen to 2 installs so far, one a (SQ) board member with Focals backed up by very high end equipment and nicely installed. The vocals coming out of those speakers were out of this world, but do Focals do LOUD and quality? He is a very nice fellow, but i wasn't going to ask him to monkey with his system for my benefit.

I need a fair bit of volume to get the most out of my music. I normally keep the windows closed so as to not draw attention to myself or bother others.

Morels was the second high end system I listened to. He also had a full Audison setup but he was adamant about low to medium listening levels, so I had no opportunity to hear it pushed.

As for the $, I'm not sure. I'd prefer closer to 1k. Depends if anything I'm interested in is on sale on my next Cali trip, & where the dollar is.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm a hardcore metalhead that listens to music louder than any sane person should. Loud enough to drown ou my own singing along and even the 165V1's I orginally had in my mazda tribute 3 years ago drowned me out without breaking up.

I'm a Supertramp kind of guy. Not to bother you too much, but do you have a current model number I could go research?

Focal America

has all the current models. if your budget is $1200 and your going 3 ways, 165V3E is your set.

Looks like that has been replaced with 165VR3 which is actually only around 5 bills U.S.

Thanks for taking the time. For some reason i always had "dainty" in mind when it came to Focals. As in, great for mids, but will not produce nice deep (well, relatively speaking of course) bass.

If you say otherwise, then I'll try to get another listen.

as always, shop with your own ears. Not by specs. you can't hear specs. and other peoples opinions should be taken as that. I've ran everything from rainbow pro-fi vanadian, Morels, Focal. and overall I'm always impressed with focals build quality and ability to to put out tons of midbass with getting muddy sounding.

Regardless of wich way you go -they all seem like great choices- the install is what will determine the final outcome.

Since you are going active, don't bother paying for those passive xovers, you can get only the raw drivers from CDT, seems like the best way to go. PM user name ROSS here. He has great prices on CDT.

And don't worry or put to much concern with getting the best product right now, as just like the rest of us, you will most likely get tired of whatever you choose and want change within the year no matter what you end up with.

if you want CDT best to send a message to Ross (member here). he is the Canadian distributor and his pricing is way better than anything you will find online.. i got a 3way setup from him (ES models) for my fronts and a coaxial set for rears off him for less than half any online retailer i could find.
im still in the process of installing them..

Sasha on here also has CDT give him a shout if you want to know what he thinks of them.

what ever you choose keep us upto date
