The fuse is there to protect the wire from burning up, so you would use a fuse at or just under the wires max current handling. What size wire are you fusing?

i'm using 0 guage welders wire to run up to the engine bay

200 amp is the max i believe for 0 gauge.... should fixer right up for ya

I would say no more than ~300 amps for 0 gauge.

No, it's not. It's there to prevent the battery from discharging into the frame and causing fire. You want a fuse on it that will blow if it grounds, and not otherwise. 1/0 can carry a ridiculous amount of current before burning up.
