Best option for my situation?
Hi guys!
So here is my current situation. I have an alpine Type R DVC 2OHM (5th gen) and a 2 12 inch ported box. I blew the other one that was with it, and have been without bass for a few weeks now. I have 400 dollars sitting to work on this. I would rather not spend all of it, but I am willing to if it means the piece of mind of not destroying another sub. Found that alpine's recommendation on wattage is lower than they previously advertised, the sub I have now is only 750w instead of the previously thought 1k. I have had nothing but problems with the type R's, and it is getting old. I am running an MB Quart 2000w RMS amp, and it is an absolute beast, and I also have a Hifonics Brutus 2600.1D sitting around. I am trying to figure out what my best options is. The MB quart pushes 2k at 1ohm, 1300 at 2, and I believe either 900 or 1k at 4ohm. I am looking at the NVX VCW 12's and getting them in 4ohm and wiring it to 1ohm to make a perfect power match with the amp. But this is also 400 dollars. The other option is to take another crapshoot at the type R's and replace my other one for 150 bucks and run them at 2ohms for 1300w. I just don't even know if those subs will handle that anymore at this point. Or if there is another sub that is decently cheap that I can go with that wont blow out in 6 weeks like my last type R did, I would love to hear about them! Please help me out here, as not having bass has been killing me! Thanks guys!

you stated youd like to save the money you have available. from the perspective go with the cheapest option get the second 12 alpine and keep your receipt for warranty! the 5th gen alpines should handle that 1300watts rms no problem being they are rated for more..
i believe you blew one due to improper wiring or clipping the signal sent to them to begin with.
two DVC 2ohm subs will run typically easiest at 2ohm mono final load.

I figure 2 DVC 4 ohms wired down to 1OHM for 2k watts would match the 2k at 1 ohm amp I have now. I just don't want to spend the 150 for the type R and have issues in a few months like last time. Thats what is holding me back. I'm planning on ordering today, so I needa choose. lol

I found the NVX's for 185 a pop so it would be 370 for the upgrade. I can do it now that I thought about selling the other equipment I have on hand. The question is if it is worth the upgrade. I would be getting another 700w out of the deal. I'm just not sure if the NVX is a very high quality sub compared to the Alpine.
