bigger vs. smaller

ive been planning on changing up my system very soon... and the one thing left to look at is the subs... at the moment im running a cdt audio cl-12 in a sealed box w/ 200 rms... ive been pretty happy with it thus far but i see a new product from cdt that i would like to get my hands on... they now have an 8inch carbon fibre sub that would go perfect with my carbon fibre hd's...
i plan on picking up another amp which changes my whole setup almost... ill have 200x2 for the front stage which is too much for my tastes and 200x2 @ ohms for the lows... so here comes the choice i have to make...
1) i can keep the cdt 12" that i have and keep underpowering it (its a dual 4ohm sub which can take 400 RMS) with only 200 RMS...
another option i have with this is i could switch around the channels so that im using the mono channels to power the front stage and stereo channels bridged for the lows... effectively giving me 100x2 for the front, and 200x2 @ 4ohms for the sub... *update* just checked about this particular option and the mono channels are class d... so they probably arent suitable for a full range application?
2) i can sell the cdt 12" and pick up 4 - 8" cdt c/f subs and have 100 RMS to each...
3) i can sell the cdt 12" and pick up 2 - cdt cl-10's and have 200 RMS running to each of them...
here comes the problem... if i go with number 2, will i be happy with the response from the 8" subs? will it sound just as good as my cdt 12? what i mean is will it hit just as low? i know the response should be faster and quicker?
will it be better?

will it be better? So many things contribute to the end result. I has been my experience that 4 8" sound awesome for SQ but lack abit for BIG impact. Decide what you want....depends on your taste. Want HUGE impact..go with larger subs. Don't need HUGE impact...go with 4-8's. The sound you get depends ALOT on the enclosure!

I'm a big fan of headroom in a system.
Keep the 200rmsx2 amp on your CDT comp set.
Since you are looking at buying a second amplifier buy one with a higher power rating (~500rms) at 2ohm to drive your current sub to its optimal performance levels.

well i dont really want to get rid of my 403a so i figure i would get a second one then... that way i would get 200x2 @ 4ohms for the front stage & 200x2 @ 2ohms for the lows... which is perfect to run my setup with the 4 - 8inch subs... any other setup would require me to get rid of the 403a since it is a 3 channel amp...
i talked to cdt and they said that the 4 - 8s would be louder... but i forgot to ask him if they would hit just as low? would they? i am primarily looking for sq... how loud it is doesnt really matter to me...
he also said that the 200 rms to the sub should be sufficient right now... even if i ran 400rms to it, it would only be more for volume.... especially since i dont run my system very loud... around 80-90dbs for daily driving...

this post is just a general question... but i figured id mention the gear im using... so dont be shy... i need some advice since this is out of my realm of knowledge...
anyways... the question i have is will the 4 - 8s sound just like i have a big sub or will it take on characteristics of small drivers (more midbass and less low end)?
pyro: is huge impact another phrase for loud? b/c essentially the 4 -8s should have a quicker and tighter response but im not sure what i have now... LOL
