Giving an amp smaller power wire?
#1
I just bought an avionixx 400.2 from a member on here (thanks Cole) and it says in the manual that it takes a minimum 6 AWG power/ground wire. I ordered my wiring and distrobution blocks thinking that it would take 8awg wire. (assumption is the mother of all f**kups i guess.) Am I going to ruin my amp if I run 8 awg to it? frickin hell......this sucks.

Don't fret...you can buy step down end pieces for the wire, steppin' it down from 6 to 8 guage....or get u'r torch out and put some solder on the stripped end, just a little more than can fit into the terminal receptor on the amp. Make sure the solder is soaked in real good, let 'er cool down and then file it down to fit the receptacle on the amp, or better yet use a bench mounted grinder and take off enough so it fits. Key to applying the solder to the end of the wire is to get it done quickly so make sure u prep your work well, enough solder handy etc..another key is to not get the wire too hot for too long as the insulation on the wire can begin to melt if you take u'r sweet time.
Good luck!

man i dont think stepping down the wire will hurt your system especially if you keep it short. Just take a multimeter and measure the resistance of the wire it shouldn't be any greater than the length of the bigger wire strung through the car.
