Bottoming out 15?

I think I need to replace my CSS SDX15, when I play it loud I can hear a metallic noise coming from the sub... In my previous box (sealed) I tough that it was my amp that was clipping bc it wasn't as loud (the noise) as my new ported box.

It's not the tinsel hitting since those are attached to the spider.

So i guess i need a new 15 unless someone can help me find the booboo

In the meantime here's what i am looking for (box 3.5ft @ 30Hz)

15"
Dual 2ohms
FS < 30 (my box is tuned @ 30)
Mounting depth < 11"
Sub Outside Diameter <=15" 1/2
Power min 1000w
Xmax min 20mm
Under 600$

What I've found so far is
SSA ICON 15D2 (Sub Outside Dia of 15.7...)
MACH5 IXL-15.2.2 (Canadian )
SoundSplinter RL-p 15

What will not work
JBL GTi15 (Trevor told me it will not work in my box, why ?)
SPL subs (They have a FS higher that 30 and i think this is not recommended for my box)

Hifonics Olympus OLM1615. Funny, it says it has a "25.4mm / 1” Hi-Excursion Surround", which is not saying that the XMAX is 1", just that the surround is capable of it.

This is probably a bad post. This is in no way a suggestion, LP, just a woofer I found that fits some of your requirements... Don't laugh at me.

that box is kinda big for a single sub and is tuned way too low too.

your box was designed for the CSS SDX woofer...it likes a really low
tuned enviroment..mostly used for HT applications
why not just get another CSS SDX????

the Icon will work though...
it is a SQ based woofer and works very well in low tuned enclosures
and the cf3 of the box is right on
(I am running my Icon 10's at 28hz)

I can't remember what it was about the Wgti...maybe the mounting depth
this enclosure was not built for an SPL based sub...some of them may
not perform well in it because of the low tuning

if you end up needing adapter rings let me know

The noise is gone!!??

I was tired of wondering what was that noise, so i decided to push it to the MAX. I played some DJ Billy E (Beats 4 my van) and first OUCH! this thing(Thanks Trevor) can play loud as hell with low notes and second it didn't blow but it look like it fixed the noise problem...

So first thing i did when i stopped is to measure the VC resistance and no i didn't blow one.

What happened?

those XBL motors have a really long former...
if the spider doesn't stretch evenly it will rub on the pole peice
this could have been the problem....

I think some of your Woofer fluid must have been starting to freeze. When you started putting voltage to the flux capacitor it probably warmed it up enough to flow freely once again. Or not.

You're right, so I should upgrade to a Mr. Fusion or just get higher grade plutonium?
