sub bottoming out!

The best way to tell is to have a look at the bottom of the voice coil former.
The only problem with this advice is that it will leave the sub in bad shape.

what r the hazzards of bottoming out
this is what hapepned
i got my rear preouts going to my amp
i turned up the bass to +6 on them
the gain on my amp is like at like 90%
the amp is a rockford fosgate 700s bridged to a 4 ohm load.
the excursion on the sub was liek so much, liek it was ready to jump out of the basket.
and when it goes in i think i heard a sound of somehting hitting somehting else.
is that bottoming out?

^ sounds like it... either that or the coil left the gap and hit the edge on its way back in...
If the cone still moves freely without scratching you are probably OK... Either turn it down before you do some real damage or look for a sub with more excursion....

^ dude... lack of power isnt going to cause overexcursion....
It is OBVIOUSLY too much power for the size/kind of box you are running... umm, I notice your sig says the box is tuned to 39hz... are you running a highpass filter to take out information below that ?? (subsonic filter)
If that thing goes to play something below 35hz I can see mad mad mad loss of motor control which could definatly cause overexursion with that amount of power....
