Box Designs
Hey guys...
I was just thinking about box designs, i have a 12" BA X-one in a slot ported box... probably about 2.3cuft.. tuned around 33hz. Some people have some really crazy stuff out there, like those 2 6.5mids... does it really make a huge difference? I mean, ive never heard anything like that in person. By all means im pretty new to car audio, but i found it pretty interesting.
Anyone on the CCA boards have something crazy like that? Surely Dukk or someone has made something that works wonders, ayone have an experience they would like to share?

Well, every box is a compromise. You are always balancing size, frequency response, and output. You can have two of those but it is hard to have all three.
I find that, unless you have mad amounts of time to play and tune, most people are happiest with and have the most luck with, sealed, vented, and 'sealed bandpass' boxes.
I run a single RE8 (wicked driver) 8" woofer in a 1.5cuft ABC box - a fancy ported box with an internal chamber, kinda like a bandpass box. I really like it. It surprises a lot of people.
Personally I don't have a lot of time to play with high strung hard to tune designs like horns and TL boxes. IMO you get big time into the land of diminishing returns there..

That sounds pretty sweet.... do smaller drivers work best in these types of setups? Anyone have experience with doing it to a larger sub... ex. a 12"?
If anyone has some knowledge they would like to pass on, even personal experience... feel free to drop a line
If anyone has a little spare time, maybe they could help with a few dimensions on a new box? Just something to play with in the summer.
Thanks,
jameson
