Question

Hey guys...i'm kinda curious. I've heard conflicting stories as far as putting the mids in kick panels by your feet or in the doors. What are the general goods/bads about using kickpanels vs mounting in doors?

Assuming a person has room and i know a lotta you guys own/run/work at shops, what would a shop generally charge for a set of kick panels (guesstimate).

Custom door pods could yield more air space but the pathlength difference is greater and imaging might not be as good....

Mids + midbass in the doors and highs in kicks + Apiller worked good for me....

Tweeters, angling is more critical then PLD's. With midbass, PLD's are more critical. A mid is a combination of the above. Therefore kickpanels are the way to go for mids unless you're planning to process the crap out of the system anyways. The mid driver is the most critical driver installation wise in the entire system in my mind. Cost will completely depend on how far you want to take it design wise and how much processing (damage) you want to use.

Ideally, you want the mid/midbass in the kicks. Tweeters are great in the a-pillars, if you know how to deal with them properly (= don't put them on-axis with your head).

kicks are good in some cars with some people. They suck for me in most cars because my girth interferes with their output. If you are a big guy try listening to friends, shops,or competition cars with kicks before you get them. I use door and sail panel locations with simple time delay(listening position selector) from my Alpine processor with great results.

I was quoted $400 for Kicks in a Honda Accord with 5 1/4 comps.

It's hard to price quote on kicks. One shop may spend tons of time testing for the best position/angle while another may just start building. Finishing is going to make a huge difference. Grills, to be custom, may double the price. I think we'd get into a nice, relatively basic set of kicks for $600 and go up from there
