I believe this issue of price difference has been broached before. I also agree with everyone’s thoughts, although you have forgotten one of the biggest rules of pricing, which is volume.

On most upper end 12-volt products in the US, there is a significant difference in price, when compared to Canadian prices. In most cases it is double. I have said it before and I will say it again, the Canadian 12-Volt market is over saturated with products. We simply do not have the population base to support all of the lines, especially the new ones, which are in most cases are better.

It is really only the Brands that have long term recognition in Canada that can survive, the rest of them, (better or not) will come and go. It is when a retailer tries a new line, that is when the prices get out of order. He does not want to order $10,000 worth of stock to get the comparable price as the US retailers. He would have no way of selling all of the equipment. I know retailers that have tried this, and short of a couple retailers in BC and a few in Ontario, it does not work for the rest.

In closing the US Market and E-bay are cheaper but remember you get what you pay for. It really is a gamble. Can you imagine our 12-Volt industry without any retailers? I don't think it would be much fun!

What's with this shopping at Wal Mart thing about?

So what if it is an American company. It employs people from our local community.

I think most people buy Canadian and our economy is doing really well, all things considered.

As for the tax thing, it can't be avoided. Our tax dollars, however inefficient the process is, provides us with a lot of stuff we take for granted. Canada is one of the best places in the world to live in. I don't know about you easterners, but here in the west coast it is much appreciated. Hell, Vancouver was voted as being the third best place to live in the entire world. Not 100% sure, but I think other Canadian cities were on that list, too.

In spite of tariffs and duties imposed on us by a particular neighbour's government policies, we continue to survive. At least our tax dollars don't go toward weapons of mass destruction. Nuff said.

Hippocrites? We are all hippocrites - it's a human trait.

Multinational corporations, the global economy, etc...... where do you think most of the parts inside consumer electronics devices come from?

Isn't our economy's success measured by how many people are employed? I'm not an economics major - fell asleep in Economics 101 (now that was a brutal class).

Anyhow, we can bull$**t all we want. Nothing we say or do here is going to make much of a difference. The only thing I agree with t-money, my-money, ur-money, whoever......... is we provide our own amusement. He laughs at us, we laugh at him. Hey, it's all good.

I post in two's now.

Notice how hard it is to buy Audison products on-line..... let me rephrase that. Notice how hard it is to get a bargain on an Audison piece on-line? Why is that?

BTW, I did get an awesome deal on an Audison (from a local dealer). No on-line place can even come close. Buhuwahahahaha.............

Since day one (legal working age), I've never relied on income assistance. I pay my taxes with little or no whining. I appreciate our way of life (our freedoms and our tolerance of others) - proud to be Canadian!

I just picked up a PG amp that retails for over 1200CND around here and I just got it shipped, duty, and all everthing for around 540 cnd. I like to support the locals as well but when were talking over 700$ that could be put into a nice set of comps...

The thing is we are taxed to death,i realize it is to pay for stuff we have but jeez, they take like 200 bucks a week right off my check then every time i go buy something i get reamed again.
It cost a fortune to support the local shop, however thats what i do and i always will.
that is a good attitude... if the car audio equipment in Canada is ever to come down in price...more people need to do the same...purchase from your local shop... that will allow them to buy in bulk to save money which in the end will save you money
keep it real... keep it Canadian

i am amused by this whole thread.Just for the record, i have never sent any money to the states for any car audio products. My e15a was bought from GCA(which is a canadian dealer) and my crossfire amp was bought from a guy on this board who lives in calgary(if i remember correctly) and my mtc amp was bought form a gut on this board too, so i do support canadian dealers.I just don't agree with people telling other people how to spend their money. All my other equipment(alpine 9835,kicker rsc comps) was bought locally.I really try to support my friends shop more than others because he gives me a good deal on everything i buy from him, if other shops are willing to give me a bargain i will buy from them.My 9835 was bought brand new when it first came out for $499 cnd by a local dealer.Shoot, things are so expensive now a days i prefer to buy used amps and new speakers, subs.Anyways, happy shopping everyone and remember, car audio is a fun hobby, let's not ruin it for anyone for making them feel guilty for their purchases. For every gperson that buys over the net theres probably 2 or 3x's that many people who buy local.
