i ran my lightning 2000 off of my 89 civic. the lights dimmed and all that fun stuff but it never killed my battery while the car was running. id recheck all the wiring to and from the amp and anything else aftermarket.

 

I found out why the battery had been drained apparently he had left his lights on all day and forgot to turn them off so I guess that is why his battery got drained.
