You know why ? Because the amount of cylinders doesn't really matter so much as the design and displacement of the engine ... Most V8s are over 4 liters in displacement whereas most I4s are 2 liters or less ...
In fact, more cylinders can be counter-productive as ...
1) More moving parts generally leaves less room for error
2) More moving parts generally means more friction (power loss)
3) More moving parts generally means greater expensive in production and repair
Not only that, but when overtaking at 140 km/h, gearing and aerodynamics play a large role as well as horsepower ...
