crappy sound

ahhhh i dont get it. are you saying i paid to much for those speaks?

anyways i'll check the wiring.

If there was a short in the wiring the speakers would not work as the amp would go into protection. Protection means no sound. If the speakers are wired out of phase, there is a loss of bass response predominantly. It has little to do with your ability to hear on the top end frequencies. Fade all the way to the rear, disconnect one speaker at the amp and reconnect opposite from how it was connected. IE: + and - is now - and + . Listen to it again and pay attention to the bass response. It will be marketdly better one way or the other. Set the speakers to where the bass response sounds best. Now fade to the front and do again.

This is going to put the speakers acoustically in phase and make sure that the cones are all moving the same direction at the same time. If this makes no difference to your sound as you hear it now, time for better speakers. Chances are as well that the output of the cd player is clipping (distorting) all over the map. To me it appears that your amp is a little on the small side and you are wanting to both play the system louder and get better sound.

have you palyed with gain and filters on the amp or with the deck's config options ?
