okie, can someone answer my questions from the first post? Thats just all i need, specially the most important one.

Thanks in advanced...

Oh and the subs in the computer speakers aren't powerfull enough for me... trust me. I'm currently using a Yamaha Q-bass subwoofer, i think its good, but it just isn't too powerfull enough.

2) How many amps do i need to run a 300-800watt x-over+amp?
(I know i have a 12v powersupply, but it only has 1ampere output. I can get a better one if i wanted.)

3) Would i need a capacitor? if so, what kind/rating.

4) Whats a good setup that costs under $600? (Subs+amp+Xover or just sub+subamp AND deck if absolutely necessary)

5) If a 12v PSU with 1 ampere isn't enough, is it safe to connect it with a computers PSU? (I have a mushkin XP-650w PSU; 20A on (4) 12v rails or 44a on one rail)

I know this sounds crazy, but I really want to do this. Plus i'll use this setup for my future Lancer EVO X (2007-2008 maybe) Thanks in advanced.

PS: I'm looking for dual 10' (preferably) subwoofers. Please feel free to suggest a bigger or smaller one. (Mind u this is used for trance/techno music that range from 100bpm to 300+bpm)

PS2: Don't mention Home Audio stuff to me plz... I'm sick of that crap quality and expenses of it. (Sorry if i seem ignorant)
1) Yes, its easy to turn on the amp

2) You'll need a 12-14.4 volt REGULATED 60 Amp suppy.
that might cost 500 bucks, read the post from the other guy trying to build a supply and failing miserably.

3) No, not if you have a good supply.

4) Good and under 600 don't belong in the same sentence. You should have ask, what is a low budget setup.

5) no your computer power supply won't do it.

You could use a couple really heavy duty car batteries and a really heavy duty battery charger.
yellow tops are 200 each and a really good charger is 300.

In the for sale section on this form, there is a kicker 15" L5 in a box and another guy has a Diamond Audio D5 600.4. You'd be taking chances buying used unless you're experienced and know what to look for.
That would give you some bass.

I gotta add more, can't resist.

I have what i consider a low budget sub setup in my car.
I have 2 CVR 15's, each is powered by a bridged GM-5100T for 380 w rms each. Crossover is buit into the amps.
the 2 subs were $358 after tax and the 2 amps were 320 after tax. Then you need a box, power cables and speaker wire.

What i'd really like to do, maybe if my tax return is good, is change the CVR's to L7's and and change the amps to D3000spl's for 1000 wrms each.
that might be worth the $1300 or so it would take.
But to do that, i'd need the 250 amp alternator for $600.

Car audio is an expenseive hobby.

Let me chime in some more...
You seem to want to do many things with the same setup: Home sub for garage, sub for your (as of yet still a dream) car, and a sub for DDR. These 3 requirements have opposite constraints.

1: Car subs are designed to work in small boxes in small rooms (the car) and take advantage of "room gain" to boost low frequencies.
2: a home theatre sub is designed to go very low in frequency to handle special movie sound effects that normally do not occur in any music. Stuff in the 30-20 Hz range. But small size is not the main criteria
3: A Big room DJ/DDR setup is PRO audio and is designed for efficency and ruggedness.

So your 3 requirements are really opposing each other!

So, If you are asking for advice from a forum, please do not get upset when the advice we give is not what you are looking for! You did not tell us in the first post that you already had a Yamaha setup. What model? Is it stereo or Home theatre, How many watts per channel? ALso tell us what other speakers you have please!

You could buy a good car sub and build a box suitable for a home subwoofer with an external amp, and then build a different box when you are ready to put it in a car. But the design process for good results is complex, and since you are a newcomer to this field, I do not recommend it.

So, in summary...look around for a good 12 inch home sub that retails for about $1000 and get it on ebay or on sale, or a store demo unit. Check out http://canada.axiomaudio.com/subwoofers.html and you will not be dissapointed. The EP500V2 is one of the best subs in the world. The EP350 will be very good for you if you are on a budget. Also look on ebay for brands such as Paradigm PW2200 or Velodyne. Remember you get what you pay for!

Let me elaborate some more... In the last 5 years there has been a trend to reduce the size of speakers. The result is small satellite speakers mated with amplified subwoofers to handel the bass. You may want to consider another option: Real big loudspeakers, no subs...something like:

or on a more modest budget:

Stay away from brands such as Stream, Theatre Research, DiVinci ...

I would be happy to give you feedback on speakers you find before buying.
look for stuff on ebay, or http://calgary.craigslist.org/ or

Yeah, sorry about that. I have a Yamaha HTR-5730.
515W (103w x 5) 5.1 channel surround sound
read the rest of specs here:
http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=200027&CTID=5000400
And i can't use eBay, im only 15 years of age and dont have a credit card yet.
Thanks for suggestions guys appreciate it.

And btw Tom.F.1, are u serious about the amp requiring 60amps?!?!?! Thats... insane. How can a car even supply such a high power demand?

ok right now, im looking at:

1. MTX 12" Subwoofer (SW2)
2. Polk 10" Subwoofer (Black)
3. Polk 12" Subwoofer (PSW12)
4. Infinity 12" 300W Powered Subwoofer (PS12BK)

please suggest more. Remeber, i need a sub that can go REAL high on volume. I really don't care about bass precision and what not. I listen to trance/techno so it doesn't matter. I just need a really bass packed sub. ^_^

right now, the MTX 12' looks really appealing *drools*

one more question... does the monster cable monster bass 300 subwoofer cable really make a noticable difference to the volume/sound quality?

haha you havent herd the best ones out there.

and from loads of reasearch done at my last retail job monster stuff does not help to make anything louder, just a bit better sounding because of the sheilding, it helps prevent lots of interference.

Car amps draw a lot of power, if you can't give it 120v like a home system, then your gonna hafta supply high curent.

My car came with a 140 amp alternator. My stereo can draw almost 100 amps.

What if i were to supply it with a high voltage instead of current? Would that work?

Most amps arent designed to eat high voltage, I think some comp amps go to 17-18V, but usually operating voltage is between like 11 and 15. The power supply is designed that way.

But I'm getting my popcorn here. Looks promising.
