What make this type of design special? From what I have read so far it appears to be a standard vented cabinet. I have build just about every type of modern box design that exists ( give or take a few designs) and I'm always willing to learn a new trick or two.

it's efficiency is what makes it so special and probably the fact that it has flared ports.

Well i have built a few horns that are efficient (100db +). But that isnt special. And using flared port dosent really increase your efficiency much if at all. Is there an internal differance. Like the differance between a 4th order bandpass cabinet and a Quasi 4th order bandpass ( the quasi bandpass have a vent that connects the two chambers, and it goes by a few different names, I was introduced to it as a Quasi).

Just curious.

From what I can infer, there is some kind of internal baffling/bracing going on to improve efficiency. Whether or not that it actually works I do not know.

I am pretty sure he started off with IDSPLs which were later discontinued so he switched to their replacement the Idmax (which from what I have heard wasn't as loud) but your source may be better then what I heard back then as to what he was doing

The First publicized CRX type enclosure was designed by Metro Audio in 1998-1999 and they used it for single 12's and 10's in customers cars and tuned it according to the customers needs via a slot port that was 2" x 13" and 15" long. They openly gave out the design to anyone who they thought could use it. I still have the fax somewhere that John Henry sent me.

To my knowledge, Sweet Sounds Audio was the first to test and compare the aero ports to the slot ports and notice their gain in spl over the slot port. So in that sense SSA did evolve the enclosure to aero ports.

Over the years people have refined the design(ports back and subs up) to a point where its interesting to see 10 different variations of interor wave guides used for the original design. Its probably the most tried tested and true designs for street enclosures out there.

If you like I can post the few variations of the ported enclosures with port back/sub up that I have drafted that do work to increase spl.

Fernes working on a box design page with cut dimentions, so they can just be saved and printed off.
