I've been toying with the idea of manufacturing my own speakers for some time, and recently I've decided to take the plunge. For my first project I'm attempting to manufacture a simple sub motor with the use of a CNC mill and lathe that I have access to. The prob is, I've found minimal(none)material on the internet regarding design elements of the speakers motor assembly. I guess I'm just wondering where one might find some of this stuff? I'm assuming people don't just learn through trial and error. Thanks.

I assume you know where to buy stainless steal plates...??

chunks of magnets the size you want are hard to find and even harder to work with... they tend to crack break and crumble...

If you find a place let me know... !

Let me know exactly what you need. I should be able to provide it for you or at least send you to someone.

Well, I actually have some magnets, they're ones I removed from a pair of old subs. When stacked I get about 2" of magnet. They're not high quality or ideal size, but I'm managing to design the speaker around them. Oh, if one of you guys wondered how I removed them, try a torch to the top plate and bottom plate of a speaker. It melts the blue holding them together and you just gotta pry them off. Oh, and don't apply direct heat to magnet itself, not only will it crack, but it will shoot pieces up at you when it starts to go. I'm not actually starting with a plate of metal, but starting with multiple blocks of aluminum. I machine each part and design them fit together. I don't have a press so I can't start with a plate of metal, though that method is probably much easier to do. I've actually looked for sources of magnets on the internet, and its basically going to cost you an arm and a leg for a sufficient size. I supposed you could go for a smaller higher grade magnet. Anyways, still no resources for some speaker design? Oh, and has anyone tried to make their own speaker surrounds? Thanks again

I will check what sizes of magnets I have available to me. A friend of mine owns a company that builds speakers for the OEM market.
